Here Are the Documents Needed to File a Car Insurance Claim

Knowing how to file a claim is one of the most critical aspects of having car insurance. A claim is a request from the policyholder to the insurance company for payment of the loss experienced by the family or an individual in accordance with the stipulated terms in the policy papers. When a person files a claim, there may be a lot of documents involved, and it is crucial to understand the significance of each document and the role they play in getting the car insurance claim approved.

Car Insurance Claim Documents

  • Proof of insurance (policy document or cover letter with your policy number)
  • engine and chassis numbers.
  • Details about the accident, such as the place, date, and time of the accident,
  • The car’s kilometre reading
  • Duly filled claim form
  • Copy of the FIR (in the event of third-party property damage, death, or bodily injury)
  • RC copy of the vehicle
  • Duplicate driver’s licence

Depending on the nature of the occurrence, you will also need to present the following documentation to the garage/dealer.

 

  • For Accident Claims:
  • FIR/Police Panchanama
  • Tax Receipt
  • An estimate for repairs from the repairer where the vehicle is to be repaired.
  • original repair invoice, payment receipt (for cashless claim settlement repair invoice)
  • The Claims Discharge Cum Satisfaction Voucher is signed across a Revenue Stamp
  • address for car inspection if you have not taken the vehicle to the local garage.

 

  • For Theft Claims:
  • Tax Payment Receipt:
  • Previous insurance information: policy number, insuring office or company, the insurance period
  • Key sets/Service Booklet/Warranty Card
  • Forms 28, 29, 30
  • Subrogation Letter
  • Revenue Stamp on a Voucher for Claim Discharge

 

  • Third-Party Claims
  • The Form of Claim duly signed
  • An FIR copy from the police
  • Duplicate driver’s licence
  • Policy text
  • The vehicle in RC form
  • The original documentation for a company-registered car must be stamped.
