In 2013, she starring in the Tamil Film Raajaa which won her critical acclaim and several awards at the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards including Best Actress.

Akkineni was born on 10th December 1993 to Hollywood actor Akkineni Nagarjuna and Kanchi Kamalakara in Hyderabad, India. Her father is Telugu and mother Tamil speaking from Sri Lanka. She has an elder brother named Akhil who is also an actor. Growing up, she was interested in modelling and dancing.
