Innovation of Under sink water filters

What is an under sink water filter?

An under-sink water filter is a Point-of-Use (POU) machinery that filters water on demand. As the name indicates, water filter systems are fitted below the sink of the kitchen. Filtration initiates almost immediately when the faucet for drinking water is turned on. This system of filtration is directly connected to the waterline, and it acts as a medium of passage that filters the water coming from these water sources to the taps in the kitchen.

Understanding the mechanism of under sink water filter systems

To comprehend its working mechanism, one needs to understand that there are two kinds of water filters- conventional under sink filters and simple under sink filters. Under the conventional system, the filtration process is very simple and easy. A plastic tube connects the water line directly under the sink. This connection helps to divert the water from the pipeline to the filter. The plastic tube delivers the filtered water through the faucet. This entire process maintains a stable pressure. It leads to a reduced flow rate that improves the quality of water. This system also helps in greater longevity of the cartridge system as only the water available for drinking is filtered.

On the other hand, simple under sink filters have a different water system. It does not require any additional faucet as the filtered water is delivered through the faucet of the sink. The higher flow rate of this system might not improve the quality like that of a conventional system as some bacteria or fluoride might still be present in the water. However, it does not mean that the water is unsafe to drink, as the quantity of these bacteria is next to zero.

Pros and Cons of under sink water filter system

Pros

Convenient and easy to use: These filtration systems help avoid any alternative investment for good quality filtered water. Connecting it directly to the water pipeline helps to maintain one single source of water. Moreover, it is very convenient as it does not produce any wastewater which needs to be disposed of carefully.

Target choice for filtration: Such systems are developed in such a way that it helps to filter only the drinking or cooking water. Thus filtered water used for other purposes such as cleaning, washing, laundry, et cetera can be avoided. Therefore, it helps to save a ton of money.

Longevity of filter cartridges: When compared to pitcher filters, under sink filters are easier to maintain. Steady water flows help the filter to last long. It can last for more than 6 months, while pitcher filters require replacement almost every quarter of the year.

Cons

More expensive than pitcher filters: Under-sink filter systems have low-cost maintenance. However, when compared to the pitcher filter, the setup cost is at a higher end.

Low flow rate: Although a low flow rate can help improve the quality of water, it consumes a lot of time to fill the filtered water. Thus, it does not work well when one requires water urgently or has many members in their family.

Storage constraints under the sink: Many households have the convention to have some kind of storage under the sink. People generally keep dustbins, utensils, kitchen towels, et cetera under the sink. Due to smaller houses and requirements of increased storage, people might consider storage capacity as well for the choice of water filters.
